Synci as a Lunch Flow alternative

Lunch Flow and Synci solve the same problem: getting bank transactions into budgeting tools like Lunch Money, YNAB, and Actual Budget when the app's own bank import doesn't cover your bank. The two services make different trade-offs, so here is an honest comparison to help you pick.

The short version

Lunch Flow spans more regions, including the US, Canada, and Brazil. Synci focuses on Europe and New Zealand and differentiates on what happens after you connect: refreshes measured in minutes rather than days, pending transactions that update in place instead of duplicating, a rule engine on every plan, and financial data that stays in the EU on a retention window you set yourself.

When Synci is the right choice

For banks in Europe and New Zealand, both services connect through the same regulated open-banking providers, so the difference is what happens after you connect. Synci refreshes every 6 hours on Basic and every 30 minutes on Pro instead of once a day, syncs pending transactions where banks expose them and updates them in place when they book, and includes a rule engine to clean up data before it lands in your budget. Actual Budget users sync through Actual's native SimpleFIN bank sync, with nothing to install or schedule. And if your bank delivers data in a strange shape, say the payee buried in a reference field, Synci's rules let you move, rewrite, and reformat every field until it fits.

When Lunch Flow is the right choice

If your accounts are in the US, Canada, or Brazil, or spread across regions Synci doesn't cover, Lunch Flow's multi-aggregator approach reaches banks Synci can't today. Its bill also comes in under Synci's Pro plan, €34.99 a year for two connections against €36.99 for one, so 30-minute refreshes and merchant enrichment cost more than Lunch Flow charges. If a once-daily refresh is enough for you, that is a real saving.

US and Canadian banks are on our roadmap, without a date attached. Leave your email and we'll tell you when that changes.

What the rule engine and enrichment actually do

Rules run on every transaction before it reaches your budget. Here one is rebuilding a YNAB memo from the bank's own description and stripping the messageFromSender: prefix that made it unreadable.

A Synci rule with the action Set Transaction Field, field Memo, and a value built from the mapped bank description with the messageFromSender prefix removed
One rule, applied to every transaction from that connection.

Enrichment is the other half: the raw string your bank sends becomes a merchant with a clean name, a category, and a logo. It is opt-in, per account, and only on Pro.

Common questions

Is Synci cheaper than Lunch Flow?
On the entry plans, yes. Synci's Basic plan is €0.99 a month plus €1 per connection, so €4.99 for the four-connection minimum, against €5.49 at Lunch Flow for the same four. Billed yearly it is €13.99 plus €10 per connection, so €23.99 for one connection and €33.99 for two, against €34.99 for the two that Lunch Flow includes. Synci's Pro plan costs more, €36.99 a year for one connection, and buys 30-minute refreshes, merchant enrichment, and a year of history.
Can I sync Actual Budget without running scripts?
Yes. Synci is a SimpleFIN provider: you paste a Synci setup token into the bank sync already built into Actual Budget, link the accounts you shared, and Actual pulls from there. Nothing to install, host, or schedule. Lunch Flow offers both routes too, a SimpleFIN Bridge destination that works the same way and its actual-flow script for the direct integration. Setup is not what separates the two services; refresh rate, rules, and enrichment are.
Does Synci support US banks?
Not today. Synci covers 2,900+ banks across 31 European countries and New Zealand, plus brokerages and crypto exchanges. US and Canadian banks are on our roadmap without a date attached, so if your accounts are there, Lunch Flow can connect them now and we can email you when Synci can.
