Bank sync for Actual Budget in Europe & New Zealand
Sync your transactions and balances to Actual Budget through its built-in SimpleFIN bank sync.
Why Synci
Does Actual Budget work with European banks?
Actual Budget has bank sync built in, but it needs a data provider behind it. SimpleFIN covers the US and Canada, and Actual's GoCardless option stopped accepting new accounts in July 2025. Synci is a SimpleFIN source for Europe and New Zealand, so there is no provider account to set up and manage yourself.
Link your bank to Synci through its own regulated open-banking login, paste your setup token into Actual's SimpleFIN settings, and run Bank Sync whenever you want fresh data. Works with any Actual server, hosted or self-hosted.
Features
Actual Budget
- Works with any hosted Actual server, including self-hosted and PikaPods
- Syncs through the SimpleFIN bank sync built into Actual, no scripts or browser extensions needed
- Run Bank Sync in Actual whenever you want fresh data
- Customize payees and descriptions with bank account rules
- Secure, read-only access limited to the accounts you choose to share
By app
One connection, every app that speaks SimpleFIN.
The setup token is all any of them needs. Pick your app for its prerequisites, exact setup steps, and the questions specific to it.
Firefly III
The Firefly III Data Importer has spoken SimpleFIN since v1.7.0, so the same Synci connection imports into a self-hosted Firefly III without a custom script.
Sure
Sure, the community fork of Maybe, ships a SimpleFIN provider under Settings > Providers. Paste a Synci setup token there and link the shared accounts.
Liquid Budget
Liquid Budget lists SimpleFIN as one of three bank providers. Paste a Synci setup token on its Bank Integration page and link the shared accounts to your budget.
Everything else
Buckets and any other app that speaks SimpleFIN work the same way. The hub page covers the protocol side and what apps get access to.

FAQ
Common questions
Yes, and it is the common case. Bank sync is part of Actual itself rather than a hosted add-on, so anything running the Actual server works: Docker on your own machine, a PikaPods instance, Fly.io, or Actual Cloud. Nothing needs to be reachable from the internet; Actual calls out to Synci when you run Bank Sync.
No. Synci is the SimpleFIN source. SimpleFIN Bridge covers US and Canadian banks, so for European and New Zealand accounts Synci takes its place rather than sitting behind it, and Actual only ever holds one setup token.
GoCardless stopped accepting new bank account data customers in July 2025, which closed the route most European Actual users had been using. Actual's SimpleFIN option was unaffected, and it is the one Synci plugs into.
No. Actual matches on the transaction identifiers SimpleFIN passes through, so a second sync reconciles what is already there. When your bank books a transaction that was pending, Actual updates it in place instead of adding a second copy.
Yes. Link every bank you want inside Synci and share the accounts you care about on the same SimpleFIN destination. Actual sees one connection with several accounts behind it, so there is nothing to repeat per bank.
Every hour to every 6 hours, depending on your plan. Many banks cap how often they will answer, so accounts at those banks refresh less often. When new data is found at your bank, it is transferred to Actual Budget within minutes.
Bank transactions, balances, and account updates. You control which accounts sync, and rules can transform data before it reaches Actual Budget.
Where your bank supports pending transactions through PSD2, yes. When a pending transaction is booked by the bank, Synci automatically updates it in Actual Budget rather than creating a duplicate.
All 2,900+ European banks Synci supports can sync to Actual Budget. Use the search above to find your bank: each result links to a combo page with setup details.
No. Synci connects to your bank through regulated Open Banking APIs, and authentication happens in your bank's own login flow. Your credentials are never shared with Synci or Actual Budget.
