Enable Banking: direct access to bank data
Enable Banking provides APIs for building applications around European bank connectivity. It is relevant both to developers building their own product and to Actual Budget users considering its experimental Enable Banking integration.

Who is it designed for?
An API integration suits developers who want to decide how users authorize access, how account data is stored, and what happens to it next. Enable Banking publishes an API reference, integration information, webhooks, and documentation for different deployment models.
That is a different starting point from choosing a ready-made destination. You should evaluate the integration work alongside coverage, access terms, and the needs of your application.
Check the bank, country, and service
Use Enable Banking’s current integration list and API documentation to check the institutions you need. A provider’s presence in a country does not mean every account at every bank exposes the same information.
Test the real account types, transaction dates, and consent renewal behavior your application depends on. A successful sandbox flow is useful for development, but it does not establish that a particular live bank works for your use case.

How Actual Budget uses Enable Banking
Actual currently labels this integration experimental. Its setup instructions require a production application, an HTTPS callback URL, linked accounts in Enable Banking, an application ID, and a credential file configured in Actual. Check your Actual version and its experimental-feature instructions before starting.

When Enable Banking is the better fit
Choose a direct provider when control over the bank-data integration is central to what you are building. If you already maintain an Enable Banking application and its bank coverage suits you, keeping that path may be the simplest decision.
Choose Synci when the outcome you want is your data in ChatGPT, Claude, Actual Budget, YNAB, or another supported app. Synci manages its upstream connections and exposes selected accounts through its own destinations. This comparison does not imply that Synci uses Enable Banking as a provider.
