A personal finance MCP server for your own accounts
Synci’s MCP server lets compatible AI assistants request financial data from accounts you authorize. It exposes read-only tools for connections, account summaries, balances, transactions, and holdings where supported. The server endpoint is https://api.synci.io/mcp.

How bank data reaches the conversation
The bank supplies data to Synci
You authorize a supported bank connection. Synci refreshes that connection according to the bank’s limits and your plan.
You grant the assistant access
Use your client’s Synci setup flow and sign in. Select the accounts that the assistant may read.
The assistant requests relevant records
In response to your question, the client can call the available read-only tools. It receives data from Synci and uses it in the conversation.
Useful access with a clear boundary
Bank accounts, brokerage accounts, and crypto accounts do not all expose the same data. A bank connection that returns balances and transactions should not be assumed to return investment positions too.
| Can read, when authorized and available | Cannot do through Synci MCP |
|---|---|
| Connected accounts and connection status | Create a payment or transfer |
| Balances and their available timestamps | Trade investments or crypto |
| Transactions in a requested date range | Change a transaction or account |
| Holdings from supported asset accounts | Read accounts outside the granted scope |
Ask for answers you can verify
A connector provides records, not a guarantee that every interpretation is correct. Keeping the calculation traceable makes the result easier to check and more useful.
- Give the date range and account scope rather than asking for an undefined ‘recent’ period.
- Ask the assistant to separate currencies and distinguish transfers from expenses.
- For a total or unusual charge, request the underlying transactions.
- Ask when the balance was last updated instead of treating the answer as a live bank screen.
Manage access in Synci and in your assistant
Synci strips sensitive account identifiers such as IBANs from assistant-facing data. You choose the accounts shared and can revoke the assistant’s access. Read-only access still discloses the retrieved financial data to the assistant service.
Client installation, availability, and settings can differ. Follow the destination guide for the client you actually use. Do not paste API secrets or SimpleFIN tokens into a chat as a substitute for the authorized connector flow.
Questions and answers
- Is an MCP server a bank-data provider?
- MCP describes how an assistant reaches tools and data. Synci’s upstream bank connections supply the financial data; its MCP server exposes authorized read-only access to that data.
- Does asking an assistant trigger real-time bank sync?
- The assistant reads the latest data available in Synci. Bank refresh frequency, request limits, and the existing imported history still determine what it can retrieve.
