Bank sync for Liquid Budget in Europe & New Zealand

Sync your bank transactions and balances into Liquid Budget through the SimpleFIN provider built into its bank integration.

Regulated Open Banking

Why Synci

Does Liquid Budget work with European banks?

Liquid Budget offers three bank providers, and two of them stop at the same border. Plaid is included with the subscription but covers US and Canadian banks, and the SimpleFIN option is documented the same way only because it assumes SimpleFIN Bridge behind the token. The source decides the coverage, not the provider.

Point that same provider at Synci instead. Link your bank once through its own regulated open-banking login, then paste a setup token on the Bank Integration page. Synci covers 2,900+ banks across 32 countries in Europe, plus New Zealand, which no other Liquid Budget provider reaches. Find your bank below.

Features

Liquid Budget

  • Works with Liquid Budget on the web and in its iOS and Android apps
  • Uses the SimpleFIN provider already built into Bank Integration, no workaround
  • Shared accounts arrive as External Accounts, then link to whichever budget account you choose
  • Runs alongside Plaid, so US and European accounts can live in one budget
  • Read-only access limited to the accounts you choose to share

Prerequisites

What you need on the Liquid Budget side

Nothing to self-host and no version to check. This one is a hosted app, so the prerequisites are an account and the right provider.

A Liquid Budget account

$5 a month or $50 a year after a 45-day trial. Bank integration is part of the subscription, but SimpleFIN is listed as an external provider, meaning you bring the source yourself. That is the slot Synci fills.

The Bank Integration page

Providers are configured once per account rather than per budget. It is where the SimpleFIN token goes and where the External Accounts table lists everything your providers return.

A Synci setup token

Generated on the SimpleFIN destination in Synci. It is one-time and valid for 7 days, and Liquid Budget exchanges it for a long-lived access URL when you save.

Worth knowing before you start: Liquid Budget only imports transactions created after a connection is established, and the first batch can take up to three business days to appear. Reconcile each account before you link it, and bring older history in through the file import instead.

Setup

Setting up Liquid Budget

Setup happens in two places. The provider is connected once per Liquid Budget account, then each budget account is linked to an external account separately.

Step 01

Connect securely

Log in through your bank's own PSD2 flow. Synci never sees or stores your credentials.

Step 02

Pick accounts

Choose which accounts Synci exposes over SimpleFIN, then copy the one-time setup token it shows you.

Step 03

Paste it into Bank Integration

Open Bank Integration in Liquid Budget, choose SimpleFIN, and paste the token. Your shared accounts show up in the External Accounts table.

Step 04

Link to a budget account

On the budget side, use Add Account or the Edit Account menu to pick the matching External Bank Account. New transactions import from there on.

FAQ

Common questions

Yes. SimpleFIN is one of the three providers on its Bank Integration page, alongside Plaid and Lunch Flow. You paste a setup token and Liquid Budget handles the rest. Its docs call SimpleFIN an external provider, which means you supply the account behind the token; Synci is that account.

No. SimpleFIN Bridge is the US and Canada source at $1.50 a month, and it is what Liquid Budget's docs assume. For European and New Zealand accounts Synci takes its place rather than sitting behind it, and Liquid Budget only ever holds one token either way.

Lunch Flow is Liquid Budget's other external option and reaches UK and EU banks through GoCardless, so for many European accounts either route works. Synci arrives over SimpleFIN instead of its own API key, adds New Zealand, and can also share brokerage and crypto accounts on the same connection.

No, and that is Liquid Budget's design rather than a limit of Synci. Bank integration imports only transactions created after the connection is established, and the first batch can take up to three business days. Reconcile the account before linking it, then use the file import for anything older.

Yes. Providers coexist, every connection lands in the same External Accounts table, and each budget account links to exactly one external account. Running US accounts through Plaid and European ones through Synci in a single budget is a normal setup.

SimpleFIN connections allow a manual sync in Liquid Budget, though its docs suggest leaving it to the daily schedule so the connection is not rate-limited. Synci keeps fetching from your bank in the background either way, so a scheduled import still picks up whatever has arrived.

All 2,900+ institutions Synci supports across 32 countries in Europe and New Zealand, from the large retail banks to regional and challenger banks. Use the search above to check yours.

Every 30 to 360 minutes depending on your plan. SimpleFIN apps pull rather than receive, so Liquid Budget sees whatever Synci last fetched at the moment you run a sync.

No. Synci connects through regulated Open Banking APIs and authentication happens in your bank's own login flow. Neither Synci nor Liquid Budget ever sees your credentials.

Yes. Edit the shared accounts on the SimpleFIN destination in Synci at any time, and the change takes effect the next time Liquid Budget syncs. Deleting the destination revokes access immediately.
