Bank sync for Sure in Europe & New Zealand
Sync your bank transactions and balances into Sure, the community fork of Maybe, through the SimpleFIN provider it ships with.
Why Synci
Does Sure work with European banks?
Sure is the community fork of Maybe Finance, self-hosted with a choice of bank sync providers. SimpleFIN is the cheapest and has been built in since v0.6.3, but Sure's own docs are candid that the SimpleFIN sources it points at are US-focused. Point that provider at a source with European coverage and it works as designed.
That source is Synci. Link your bank once through its own regulated open-banking login, generate a setup token, and paste it into Settings > Providers. Sure claims the token, lists the accounts you shared, and you decide which Sure account each one feeds. Synci supports 2,900+ banks across 32 countries; find yours below.
Features
Sure
- Works with any self-hosted Sure instance, Docker or otherwise
- Uses the SimpleFIN provider already in Sure, so there is nothing extra to install
- Link each shared account to a new or an existing account in Sure
- Sure matches on the upstream account ID, so re-syncing updates rather than duplicates
- Read-only access limited to the accounts you choose to share
Prerequisites
What you need before you start
Less than most providers ask for. If your instance is current, you already have everything.
A Sure instance on v0.6.3 or later
That is the release where the SimpleFIN provider landed. It has been refined since, including the account-matching fix that keeps two same-named accounts from being confused on sync.
Access to Settings > Providers
Providers are configured per instance, so you need the account that administers your self-hosted Sure. Nothing has to be set at the container level.
A Synci setup token
Generated on the SimpleFIN destination in Synci. It is one-time and valid for 7 days; Sure exchanges it for a long-lived access URL the moment you save.
No Plaid credentials, no API keys, and nothing to expose publicly. Sure reaches out to Synci, not the other way around.
Setup
Setting up Sure
All of this happens inside your own instance. There is no Sure cloud to sign up for and no API key to manage on either side.
Connect securely
Log in through your bank's own PSD2 flow. Synci never sees or stores your credentials.
Pick accounts
Choose which accounts Synci exposes over SimpleFIN, then copy the one-time setup token it shows you.
Paste it into Sure
Open Settings > Providers in your Sure instance, find the SimpleFIN panel, paste the token into Setup token, and save. Sure claims it once and keeps the access URL.
Link and sync
Sure lists the accounts you shared. Link each one to a new or existing Sure account, then sync whenever you want fresh balances and transactions.

FAQ
Common questions
Yes. SimpleFIN is one of Sure's built-in bank sync providers and has been since v0.6.3. You configure it from Settings > Providers by pasting a setup token, and Sure handles claiming the token and fetching accounts from there.
Sure is the community fork of Maybe Finance, which stopped being developed and was archived. The fork is maintained independently and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Maybe Finance Inc. If you self-hosted Maybe, Sure is where that project continued.
No. Synci is the SimpleFIN source in this setup. SimpleFIN Bridge covers US and Canadian institutions; for European and New Zealand accounts Synci takes its place, and Sure only ever holds one setup token.
Sure tracks each account by its upstream account ID rather than by name, so re-syncing updates the accounts and transactions it already has. Pending transactions are updated in place once your bank books them, rather than landing a second time.
Yes. Link every bank you want inside Synci and share the accounts you care about on the same SimpleFIN destination. Sure sees them as one connection with several accounts behind it, so there is nothing to repeat per bank.
A setup token can only be claimed once and expires after 7 days, so a token that has already been used will be rejected. Generate a fresh one on the SimpleFIN destination in Synci and paste that in instead.
All 2,900+ institutions Synci supports across 32 countries in Europe and New Zealand, from the large retail banks to regional and challenger banks. Use the search above to check yours.
Every hour to every 6 hours depending on your plan, and less often at banks that cap automated requests. SimpleFIN apps pull rather than receive, so Sure sees whatever Synci last fetched at the moment you run a sync.
No. Synci connects through regulated Open Banking APIs and authentication happens in your bank's own login flow. Neither Synci nor Sure ever sees your credentials.
Yes. Edit the shared accounts on the SimpleFIN destination in Synci at any time, and the change takes effect the next time Sure syncs. Deleting the destination revokes access immediately.
